Educators, Businesses Aim to Build STEM Workforce in Oklahoma
At STEMulate 2014, local businesses join forces with colleges and afterschool programs to help educators learn more about the pathway from middle school and high school to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers.
Oklahoma Afterschool Network program leaders and Oklahoma City and Millwood Public Schools teachers and administrators will hear three panel discussions.
First, industry leaders from Boeing, Tinker AFB and Mosaic Personnel will discuss the skills STEM employers need now, and anticipate in the immediate future. Next, Rose State College, OSU and OU faculty will present expectations for students enrolled in STEM majors. Finally, OU K20 Research Center will discuss how to better prepare students for STEM majors and careers.
“Hopefully this will spur the right type of educational guidance to not only build our workforce, but keep strong job candidates in Oklahoma,” said Bobbi Bailey, Sr. VP of Mosaic Personnel. “Building strategies based on industry needs within our state will keep graduates from leaving the state for broader opportunities.”
STEMulate 2014 will take place April 19 at Rose State College.
